Dotted formats allow for a mix of both writing and drawing. ![]() Unlined page formats are good if you find yourself doodling often. Lined pages are great for traditional journaling. Generally, there are three page formats: lined, unlined, and dotted. If so, opt for a design that allows refillable page inserts. Once you figure out if you want guided or unguided writing space, think about if you plan to use the journal repeatedly. More recently, travel journals featuring writing prompts have been popping up-everything from list-making journals to mindfulness journals for recording memories during your trip. There are all kinds of travel journals out there, so it’s best to know what you want to use them for. ![]() What to Look for When Buying a Travel Journal Type We also like the archive that lets you organize where you’ve stayed, eaten, shopped, and visited, so you always have the information on hand when your conversation turns to “that one really good restaurant in Bloomsbury.” The pages (76 of which are blank for journaling) include large-scale maps of the city along with a street index, a map of the city’s metro system, and 12 translucent, repositionable sticky page overlay sheets so you can keep track of your routes. Inside the notebook, you’ll find plenty of ways to organize your trip while you’re in the planning stages and on the ground. With cities like London, Istanbul, Prague, Madrid, and San Francisco, there’s a version available for plenty of major travel destinations. Moleskin’s City Notebook series of journals is excellent for travelers who can’t bear to leave their everyday Moleskine at home but want to keep their travel reflections separate.

![]() In terms of car for your cash, the Captur nobbles just about all of the competition. That’s no hardship though, because this car is remarkable value – it’s cheap to buy outright and an absolute bargain on standard 0% finance. To get the full feel of the new model’s changes, you’ll need one of the highest-end trim levels. However, if you’re in the market, the Captur is right up there as one of the very best choices. Sure, compact crossovers rarely set the world alight and this is no exception. It works well, and once you’ve learned where the buttons all are to control it, is easy to use. This basically uses adaptive cruise with stop and go function as well as various lane-keeping aids to keep you in place. More importantly, a selection of driver assistance tech has been thrown at the Captur, most important of which is the Highway & Traffic Jam Companion. Refinement is good, too, with the engines only getting vocal when you really rev them out, but who does that in a little crossover? However, the Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 and MINI Countryman all beat the Arona for boot space. A six-speed manual is standard, but you can opt for a seven-speed dual-clutch auto, badged EDC. Considering its compact size, the SEAT Arona offers an impressively large boot with a good amount of flexibility thanks to a two-level boot floor and the ability to fold the seats down and free up a total of 823 litres. 128bhp and a much chunkier 177lb ft come from four cylinders, rather than three – so it’s both smoother and more powerful, albeit slightly more droning at speed. It’s spoiled by a notchy five-speed manual, though, so we’d go for the 1.3 TCe 130 instead. Majority town users will be more than happy with the power on offer, and it’s not above the occasional motorway jaunt either. ![]() While 13.3 seconds to 62mph is definitely slow, if you give this engine a good boot it’s surprisingly tractable. ![]() Things kick off with a 1.0-litre TCe 100, which has just 99bhp and 118lb ft. What’s under the bonnet?Ī selection of petrol and diesel engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid. However, even with the seats all the way back, it’s a bigger space with 422 litres. That’s impressive when you consider the Skoda Kamiq’s boot is 400 litres in size, but that does mean there’s no legroom in the back. If you are the sort that holds onto cars for longer than a few years this should be of no concern but for the rest of us, we may want to hold out for the updated version.Up to 536 litres of space is on offer if you slide the seats forwards. Boot space The T-Roc’s boot is a practical square shape, and at 445 litres (392 litres in the four-wheel-drive variants), it’s slightly larger than the one in the Q2 and the Arona. We could see this as soon as early next year in which case the value of this derivative will suddenly take a knock. Then there's the fact that this new Captur is late to the party which means that it will be due for a facelift in the next 24 months. Another was the finishing of some of the plastics where the flashing from the moulding process hasn't been finished off particularly well, resulting in sharp edges to some areas like the aforementioned paddle shifters. We don't doubt that after spending more time with the model we would discover a few other areas. The glove box is one such area where the plastic feels terribly cheap with a nasty, flimsy catch. A few areas left us disappointed, particularly with the materials used in some of the trimmings. It makes no bones that it's gunning for the likes of the Haval Jolion, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen T-Cross and a slew of other upmarket crossovers that play in this exceptionally hot-contested segment of the market.Īs a whole, the new Captur presents an attractive and appealing package but it's not without a few concerns. This all-new, second-generation Captur picks up where the old one left off, slotting into the B-SUV segment for crossovers that combine the practicality of an SUV with the compact, easy-driving nature of a hatchback. I got to work there for a couple of months and was recently hired as a full-time technician. The second internship I completed last summer was with Faust Harrison Pianos in White Plains, New York. I took it apart, put it back together, plugged it in, and it was totally fine! But Alex and I had just enough time to talk to each other and know that we wanted to spend the rest of our BUTI experience inseparably. It just had some broken particle board and stripped screws. It turns out the broken clavichord was actually a Clavinova, which is a digital instrument. So I got in the car with this complete stranger, and we drove to where the instrument was stored. ![]() I told him I could come look at it but couldn’t make any promises as I was not qualified. Now, a clavichord is an old historical instrument and is very delicate it’s not a piano. 45 minutes later, Alex knocked on the door and said, “We just moved a clavichord and it’s broken. Xiaodan introduced me to the stage manager, Alex, so he could give me access to the building where I would be tuning pianos. While at Tanglewood, I was helping set up pianos and getting tuning experience. (North Bennet has a strong connection with BU-one of our North Bennet graduates, Xiaodan Liu PT ’07, PA ’08, RPT, is head piano technician at BUTI and senior piano technician at Boston University School of Fine Arts.) They have pianos, so they’re in need of technicians. The first was with Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI) it is an institute for advanced high school musicians. Last summer, between Basic Piano Technology and Advanced Piano Technology, I completed two internships. ![]() But the one memory that I could never replace, in terms of the trajectory of my life, is meeting my partner because of this program, as well as finding my dream job. It’s so hard to pick one North Bennet experience because there have been so many that are amazing. Can you name one of your favorite experiences in the program? I decided that if I could, I wanted to go. I was lucky enough to tour in person, and I fell in love with the departments. I was part of one of the last tours offered in person in 2019, right before Covid hit. You should just go check it out, because if that’s your tribe, then it’s a special place.” They both said, “It’s a unique place with niche people. Senior year, because of my love for dealership work, two of them-my piano professor and my composition professor-said, “Have you ever heard of North Bennet Street School? Have you ever considered going there?” My composition professor knew a Salem State graduate who went to North Bennet and completed the Piano Technology programs, so there was also a connection there. I was blessed with some wonderful mentors and private instructors during my undergraduate degree. I thought, “That’s a really cool job.” How did you discover NBSS? Why did you choose to attend the School? But then someone helped me realize that there is a role of technician, the person who actually cares for the instruments and helps them realize their greatness. The instruments are gorgeous-they’re so well kept, new, starting off their life, and they’re going to be loved by the people who buy them.įor a long time, I thought the only window into a dealership was through sales, which I had some experience in and was what I was originally thinking of doing. I decided pretty quickly that if I could work anywhere in the world, I would want to work at one of them. They’re just the most magical places in the world to me. This became a big passion of mine, visiting piano dealerships. ![]() They were so gracious at all the locations I visited. I tried to get to know as many different brands and models as I could by playing them and bothering the salespeople. I started showing up at piano dealerships that sold these instruments new. I didn’t know a lot about pianos at the time, and they all sounded so different. There were several different types of pianos-Steinway, Yamaha, Bösendorfer, and Bechstein. I remember coming to this plugin that I fell in love with that was all pianos. The lens that I was composing through was a lot of digital audio workstations and playing with things like GarageBand and Pro Tools. When I was a sophomore, I started getting into composition. I received my undergraduate degree in music at Salem State University.

After that, using materialized-view refresh, you can ingest hundreds of megabytes of data per second. ![]() You can create materialized views using SQL statements. It’s simple to set up, and directly ingests streaming data into your data warehouse from Amazon Kinesis Data Streams and Amazon Managed Streaming for Kafka ( Amazon MSK) without the need to stage in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). Redshift streaming ingestion provides low latency, high-throughput data ingestion, which enables customers to derive insights in seconds instead of minutes. This post showcases how to use streaming ingestion to bring data to Amazon Redshift. To gain deeper and richer insights, you can bring all the changes from different data silos into one place, like data warehouse. Data silos causes data to live in different sources, which makes it difficult to perform analytics. With the explosion of data, the number of data systems in organizations has grown. When the CDC is high-frequency, the source database is changing rapidly, and the target database (i.e., usually a data warehouse) needs to reflect those changes in near real-time. A CDC-based approach captures the data changes and makes them available in data warehouses for further analytics in real-time.ĬDC tracks changes made in source database, such as inserts, updates, and deletes, and continually updates those changes to target database. Change Data Capture (CDC)-based approach has emerged as alternative to batch-based approaches. A batch-based approach can introduce latency in data movement and reduce the value of data for analytics. Batch load can run once or several times a day. Traditionally, customers used batch-based approaches for data movement from operational systems to analytical systems. We hear from our customers that they’d like to analyze the business transactions in real time. |
